Reduction in Trade Qualifier Fees
Big news for skilled trades professionals in Nova Scotia! 🚧
We’re cutting red tape and saving you money:
✅ No more 5-year certification renewals
✅ Lower exam challenge fees for more than 70 occupations ($350, down from $644)
“Eliminating renewals and lowering fees removes unnecessary red tape for trades professionals,” said Nolan Young, Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration. “These common-sense changes save time and money, while helping more people gain certification and grow our skilled trades workforce.”
Eliminating Renewals for Skilled Trades
What does this mean?
- Trades professionals in 13 compulsory trades and 2 non-compulsory trades will no longer need to renew their Certificates of Qualification or identification cards every five years.
- Renewal will continue only for the blaster trade, where re-certification is required to do re-certification training.
- The change reduces administrative burden and saves trades professionals time and money.
- Previously, Nova Scotia and Ontario were the only jurisdictions in Canada requiring trade certification renewals.
