ATBS Success: Barrett Risser

What do you call a certified carpenter who operates a successful family contracting business in the South Shore of Nova Scotia? A smart skilled trades business owner!

Barrett Risser and his father began Risser’s Construction Limited fifteen years ago. As a good carpenter knows, building upon a solid foundation is the only way to ensure that your work and your good business name hold steady through the challenges of changing economic periods. That’s why Barrett decided to lay a good footing in business skills by taking advantage of the Atlantic Trades Business Seal (ATBS) opportunity provided by the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA) and the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC).

The ATBS allowed Barrett to gain and improve the business skills he recognized would be necessary to further his family business. “We are still learning and developing our business and the ATBS was so important in providing us the framework and confidence to continue to elevate our business.” Not only has Risser Construction Limited grown from increased business skills and knowledge which Barrett attributes to the ATBS Program, but his company has also been recognized by NSAA as a Champion Employer in the province.
