Did you know that you can become an apprentice while you're
still in high school? In fact, you can register as a
youth apprentice if you're 16 to 19 years of age. Wow!

If you've graduated from high school (or equivalent),
apprenticeship should be on your radar. (Remember that if
you're 16 to 19 years of age, you can register as a youth
apprentice.)

If you've graduated from a pre-apprenticeship or college
program (for example, NSCC's one or two year pre-
apprenticeship programs), the next step is...becoming an
apprentice!

Once you decide to pursue an exciting career in apprenticeship...
...find an employer that will hire you in the trade you’re interested in. Then,
register as an apprentice.
- Keep in mind that upon registration, you may receive credit for hours of previous work experience in the trade (including hours you may have accumulated from participating in co-op placements or the Options and Opportunities (O2) program).
- Also, if you’ve graduated from an approved pre-apprenticeship program, you become eligible to receive a pre-determined credit towards practical hours and the portion of technical training completed during the program.
Once you’re registered, that’s it: You’re an apprentice! This is the first
step to becoming a journeyperson.
