Financial Assistance

It PAYS to participate in apprenticeship training!

There is a wide range of supports available to those who participate:

Apprentices will also be paid a wage for their experience on the job and they will have the opportunity to apply for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits when they begin apprenticeship technical training.

** Employers can now complete and submit apprentices' Records of Employment (ROEs) online. For details, please visit Service Canada's ROE website.

Additionally, employers may “top up” an apprentice's loss of wages while they are attending technical training, and this allowance is not considered as earnings to be deducted from EI benefits. Apprentices should speak to their employer to see if this option is available to them.

  • EI Benefits (while participating in apprenticeship technical training)

Apprentices may also be eligible for additional financial assistance to cover costs associated with training, child care, living away from home, travel assistance, commuting allowance and disability allowance.
