If you have a qualification from another country for a trade or occupation that is similar in scope to one of the designated trades in Nova Scotia, you can have your credentials and work experience reviewed to determine how well you meet the standards for the occupation here in Nova Scotia.
You will be required to provide proof of a generally equivalent certification from your home country as well as proof of the required hours of hands-on work in the trade.
Following an assessment, you may be:
- permitted to write the Interprovincial Red Seal Exam.
- recommended to enroll in the apprenticeship program, with appropriate credit granted for previous experience and technical training.

Please note that a number of these trades are designated as compulsory, meaning that you must hold a Nova Scotia Certificate of Qualification (or acceptable equivalent) or be registered as an apprentice if you wish to work in your chosen field.
